Venue Profile: Museum of London Docklands

Making memories to last a lifetime at the Museum of London Docklands

Raffaela Pozzi at Museum of London Docklands has kindly provided some lovely words on this unique venue.

Having only recently received its wedding license, 2020 looked set to be a very promising year for weddings at the Museum of London Docklands and although Coronavirus has meant the majority of weddings have had to be postponed, we are continuing to receive a high level of enquiries and the pipeline for next year and beyond looks positive.

Located over five floors with a charismatic late Georgian warehouse, the museum is Canary Wharf’s only Grade I listed building, based on the waterfront and traces the 2,000-year history of London’s river, port and people. Its popularity as a wedding venue can be attributed to its versatile spaces, incredible history and picturesque quayside location.

The Museum of London Docklands has four spaces on offer for wedding ceremonies, all of which are complimented by original Caribbean pine columns and floors. The exchanging of vows can take place in the No. 1 Warehouse gallery, which offers a rare insight into what was once the world’s largest dock complex complete with incredible artefacts; the Quayside Room with its brick walls and direct views of West India Quay that imbue the space with a distinct character and atmosphere; the Sugar Store on the ground floor with striking pitch pine columns and original shuttered windows; and the Wilberforce Room, a flexible space with all of the unique charm of a 19th century warehouse including exposed brick walls.

For the ultimate gallery experience, these ceremony rooms can be combined with some of the immersive galleries to host the drinks reception, wedding breakfast and after-party. Spaces include the immersive Sailortown, a full-size reconstruction of a Victorian Street; the Muscovado Hall with its exposed columns and oakwood floors; and the Rum Store which offers views of West India Quay and direct access to the terrace. Subject to government guidance, there could also be the possibility of adding Mudlarks play area to your wedding, a safe and fun space that is perfect for keeping younger guests amused throughout the day!

The Museum of London Docklands is fully Covid-compliant with a number of new protocols introduced to ensure the safety of our guests and team, all of which can be viewed here.
